Personalised Dog Wall Art: Handmade Gold and Silver Leaf Dog Portraits

Framed gold leaf 3D Cocker Spaniel dog wall art above an oak sideboard, JP Designs

Personalised dog wall art is a framed portrait of your dog's breed that you can have made with their name on it. At JP Designs we make ours by hand in the UK, as a raised relief finished in gold or silver leaf and set on a black background in a 33cm square frame. This guide runs through the breeds we cover, how the personalisation works, gold or silver, what it costs, and how to order a custom or memorial piece.

What is personalised dog wall art?

It is a dog portrait for the wall, made for a specific breed and personalised with your dog's name. Ours are not prints or canvases. Each portrait is a raised 3D relief, so the shape of the dog stands proud of the background and catches the light, and it is finished by hand in gold or silver leaf. The standard piece is a 19cm portrait on a black background with a white mount, in a 33cm square black frame behind glass. Add your dog's name underneath and it stops being just the breed and becomes your dog.

How is each piece made?

Every piece is made to order in the UK, one at a time. The breed portrait is built up as a fine raised relief, finished by hand in gold or silver leaf, then mounted and framed behind glass. Because the leaf goes on by hand, small variations are normal and are part of why no two pieces are quite identical. Made to order means there is a short wait rather than same-day dispatch, and it also means a piece can be personalised or adjusted before it is finished.

Should you choose gold or silver leaf?

The same Cocker Spaniel in silver leaf. Every design comes in gold or silver at the same price.

Gold and silver are priced the same, so it comes down to your room and your dog. Gold is warmer and reads as the more premium, gift-like choice, and it is the one most people go for. Silver is cooler and more contemporary, and it tends to suit grey and monochrome rooms and lighter coated dogs. The picture above is the same Cocker Spaniel in silver, so you can see the difference side by side. If it is a gift and you cannot decide, gold is the safer pick.

Which dog breeds are available?

A Golden Retriever portrait in gold leaf. We cover more than 50 dog breeds.

We cover more than 50 dog breeds. That runs from the ones everyone asks for, like Cocker Spaniels, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, French Bulldogs, Cavapoos, Staffies and Dachshunds, through to less common breeds that owners struggle to find anywhere else. The Dachshund, or sausage dog, is one of the most requested, so if you have searched for sausage dog wall art and come up short, it is here. If your breed is not in the collection, or your dog is a cross, we can make a custom portrait to match. There are cats and other pets in the collection too, so it is not only dogs.

Can you personalise it with your dog's name?

Yes. Personalisation adds your dog's name to the piece and costs about £5 on top of the standard price. It is the small detail that turns a breed portrait into your dog, which is why these work so well as gifts and keepsakes. For a full custom portrait, where we match your actual dog rather than the standard breed shape, send a clear photo and we work from that.

Does it work as a dog memorial or a gift?

The paw print with a halo, one of our memorial designs, in gold leaf.

It does, and memorial and gift pieces are two of the most common reasons people buy them. For a memorial, a gold paw print with a halo, or your dog's own breed portrait with their name, gives you something calm to keep on the wall rather than tucked away in a drawer. If you are choosing a memorial piece, our guide to dog memorial gifts goes through the options in more detail, and there is a wider guide to pet memorial wall art as well. As a gift it suits dog lovers, new puppy owners and occasions like Christmas, birthdays and Father's Day. Memorial and custom pieces are approved with you before we make them, and they are non-refundable once you have approved the design, because they are made only for you.

How much does personalised dog wall art cost?

A single framed portrait starts at £34.99, with most singles between £34.99 and £54.98. Adding your dog's name is about £5 more. If you want more than one, sets of three start at £99.99. Gold and silver cost the same. Custom pet portrait services in the UK commonly start around the £90 to £100 mark and climb from there for hand-painted commissions, so a finished, framed, personalised piece at this price is at the affordable end.

Where can you buy personalised dog wall art in the UK?

JP Designs sells directly at jp-designs.co.uk, and the full range is in the Dog and Pet Wall Art collection. Everything is made to order in the UK and posted out once it is finished. For a breed that is not listed, a cross-breed, or a memorial piece, email info@jp-designs.co.uk with a photo and we will tell you what is possible before you order.
